Look, we're not your typical stuffy accounting firm. We started Halrion Tavos because we got tired of watching brilliant tech founders struggle with the financial side of things - not because they couldn't handle it, but because most accounting firms just didn't get the startup world.
We've been there ourselves. Late nights, tight budgets, wondering if that tax structure's gonna hold up when investors start asking questions. That's why we built something different here in Vancouver - a firm that actually speaks your language and understands that every dollar counts when you're scaling.
After helping a few startup friends navigate their first tax season (and honestly, seeing them overpay by thousands), we realized there's a real gap in the market. Tech companies need accountants who understand SaaS revenue models, R&D credits, and why you can't just treat stock options like regular compensation.
Opened our doors on Homer Street with three clients and a whole lot of coffee. Those first few months were intense - we're talking about building systems from scratch, figuring out which cloud tools actually worked, and yeah, making some mistakes along the way. But that's how you learn what tech startups really need.
This was huge for us. Several of our initial clients started raising Series A rounds, and we got to help structure those deals properly. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing a founder you've worked with from day one successfully close funding because their books were clean and their tax strategy was solid.
Brought on more CPAs who actually get excited about crypto taxation and cross-border transactions. We're still selective about who joins us - they've gotta understand that our clients don't need lectures, they need practical solutions that work in the real world.
We're now supporting over 80 tech startups across BC and beyond. What hasn't changed? We still return calls same-day, we still explain things in plain English, and we're still genuinely excited when our clients hit their milestones. That's the stuff that matters.
